When I looked at the list of the 32 horses in the kill pen at Camelot this week and saw that prices had risen (more demand for horse meat in Europe during the spring and summer

), my heart fell. How could we do it this week? Where would the money, the homes come from? More than 12 straight weeks of saving them all? More than 350 horses we've saved and found homes for.
I KNEW in my heart this was probably going to be the week when we left a dozen or more beatiful souls to face a a horrible end after a brutal truck ride north to Canada.
And I was not alone in that feeling. The folks I've been working with the past three months on this incredible project all felt the same. But we did what we always do - we got to work - networking, raising funds, more networking, cross posting - begging our friends, and strangers to cross post. We worked on saving one horse at a time.
Thursday - all the boards were pretty damn quiet....funds were coming in VERY slowly.....few homes offered.
We kept working...horse by horse. The incredible photographer went and created portraits of these sweet souls doomed to die. We kept networking, cross posting.
A major storm of epic proportions heading towards Camelot - feet of snow - not inches of snow, fell.
Friday morning - still 14 horses left......14 beautiful horses. DOOMED.
We kept working....we kept praying......the miracle started to happen. A lovely man from the Netherlands sent $75 Euro dollars. A beautiful woman who owns an Arabian Breeding farm in Ga sent $200, donations starting coming in, home offers starting coming in. Friday night - down to 5 horses left - 2 or 3 we were sure would be bailed out this am.....but the 2 or 3 without home offers....where would they go.....how would the money for them come in.....
We kept working.......praying.....and working some more......
This morning - still two horses left - both beautiful.....Both incredibly trained.....one with incredible breeding......no homes???? Have money to bail but where would they go???? FEET OF SNOW on the ground....
We kept working....we kept praying.....One horse found a home in Colorado. Angels stepped in to get that horse to Colorado. One horse left......impeccable breeding.....impeccable talent - a little old - 17 - but a beautiful Chestnut mare.....who could take her? We kept working ....we kept praying......An angel stepped forward for her.
All safe.....all found homes.......again this week......one horse at a time.
If you can join me this week in the Camelot saves, I know a horse sitting in the kill pen this week will appreciate your help.
Much love
