Camelot Auction

This is the spot to post any "at risk" horses needing homes, rescue situations or other abuse and neglect issues.

Camelot Auction

Postby Mr. Midnight's Mom » Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:54 pm

Tonight 1-13-10 is another Camelot Auction. The auction house is located in Cranbury NJ. The horses, we've heard 40 or more, and most very young and unbroke (rumor has it) will be run through the auction ring. What horses do not sell, will go to the feed lot (holding pen) - these horses will ship to slaughter on Sunday.

One Horse at a TIme, Inc. has been working with a large network of Facebook friends (Sharon Crumb) and the Fans of Barbaro to fund the bailing out of these horses and finding homes. In the past 9 weeks, over 200 horses have been sold. NONE have shipped to slaughter.

If you can offer transport for a reduced cost, or can offer a home for one of these horses, or would like to donate to the cause, please contact me.

Pictures and descriptions of the available horses will not be available until very late tonight or early tomorrow morning. I will post the link to the descriptions and pictures here.

Help us save these horses.

Today is Friday - there are 7 horses STILL in the holding pen - at least one has a home offer - and funds are trying to be raised for #726 on ABR and on OHAAT'S facebook fan page.

Please network to everyone you know......

If you can donate that is wonderful! If you can network, that too is wonderful.

We will NOT leave any behind - one way or another.....

We are down to only 14 left!!! out of the original 36 - which is awesome - please keep networking. Yesterday a professional photographer went to the feed lot - these are her photographs - are they not incredible!!! Show these portraits to anyone who believes that slaughter is ok and you'll change their minds immediately.

Re: Camelot Auction

Postby Mr. Midnight's Mom » Sun Jan 31, 2010 9:30 am

More than 12 weeks straight in a row - AMAZING. But it's odd, though. Frank, the owner of Camelot, says he can NOT believe the number of horses going through - unusual - in his words. We all believe that the word has gotten out - that folks know that rescues are working at Camelot, and if their horse doesn't sell, that it will be saved from the slaughter truck by all the folks working on this project.

A double edged sword. A blessing and a curse. The numbers are increasing. It IS getting more difficult to get them all out - but so far, we have.

Would it not be incredible to use this model at auction houses all over the country where our beloved friends are shuffled through and crammed into double decker trucks to take the last horrific ride?

Since the beginning of October, I believe the number of horses saved and rehomed from Camelot exceeds 300. At the Sugar Creek auction in Ohio - more than 100 horses end up on the slaughter truck EVERY WEEK!

These are not USED UP, OLD, LAME, UNWANTED horses - NO - far from it - these are just "mis placed" horses - horses that need a better matchmaker.

Each of us can help - just be networking - that is our MOST valuable tool in the tool box.

Postby Mr. Midnight's Mom » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:40 am

32 Precious souls in the kill pen this week - many BABIES - 1/2 dozen TBS, paints, gaited horses, you name it!!

Nice Horses - they didn't ask to be in a lot waiting for a trailer ride to a Canadian slaughter plant.

Please cross post this list far and wide - that is their only chance. If you can donate - the paypal is working4them@gmail.com

Bless you - and keep these horses in your prayers.

Re: Camelot Auction

Postby Mr. Midnight's Mom » Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:31 pm

When I looked at the list of the 32 horses in the kill pen at Camelot this week and saw that prices had risen (more demand for horse meat in Europe during the spring and summer :( ), my heart fell. How could we do it this week? Where would the money, the homes come from? More than 12 straight weeks of saving them all? More than 350 horses we've saved and found homes for.

I KNEW in my heart this was probably going to be the week when we left a dozen or more beatiful souls to face a a horrible end after a brutal truck ride north to Canada.

And I was not alone in that feeling. The folks I've been working with the past three months on this incredible project all felt the same. But we did what we always do - we got to work - networking, raising funds, more networking, cross posting - begging our friends, and strangers to cross post. We worked on saving one horse at a time.

Thursday - all the boards were pretty damn quiet....funds were coming in VERY slowly.....few homes offered.

We kept working...horse by horse. The incredible photographer went and created portraits of these sweet souls doomed to die. We kept networking, cross posting.

A major storm of epic proportions heading towards Camelot - feet of snow - not inches of snow, fell.

Friday morning - still 14 horses left......14 beautiful horses. DOOMED.

We kept working....we kept praying......the miracle started to happen. A lovely man from the Netherlands sent $75 Euro dollars. A beautiful woman who owns an Arabian Breeding farm in Ga sent $200, donations starting coming in, home offers starting coming in. Friday night - down to 5 horses left - 2 or 3 we were sure would be bailed out this am.....but the 2 or 3 without home offers....where would they go.....how would the money for them come in.....

We kept working.......praying.....and working some more......

This morning - still two horses left - both beautiful.....Both incredibly trained.....one with incredible breeding......no homes???? Have money to bail but where would they go???? FEET OF SNOW on the ground....

We kept working....we kept praying.....One horse found a home in Colorado. Angels stepped in to get that horse to Colorado. One horse left......impeccable breeding.....impeccable talent - a little old - 17 - but a beautiful Chestnut mare.....who could take her? We kept working ....we kept praying......An angel stepped forward for her.

All safe.....all found homes.......again this week......one horse at a time.

If you can join me this week in the Camelot saves, I know a horse sitting in the kill pen this week will appreciate your help.

Much love

It gets tougher every week - more horses every week - and prices are going up - as the demand for horse meat increases - we're hearing that the Canadian plants are paying $1 pound dressed :*(

All were saved last week - thanks to networking and hard work and praying

since we started keeping track of how many (nov 4 09) - we've saved 448 horses!

There are 31 in the kill pen this week - some really great horses - that don't deserve to end up hanging on a meat hook.

Please cross post this list and network for homes - that's our best tool in the battle to end horse slaughter.

These guys are depending on you to take a few minutes and spread the word -

here's the link to this week's list. God Bless you all!

Re: Camelot Auction

Postby Mr. Midnight's Mom » Sat Mar 27, 2010 7:48 pm

This was the suckiest week yet at Camelot. Early in the week, EHV-1 was discovered in some earlier horses in QT - the various groups felt it best to sit this out - I can say we all felt miserable about that - then on Wednesday night, Maryann. Maryann's young daugter and PJ from Facebook braved the aucton house in tears - to find it packed - 60+ horses there - 30+ ended up in the feedlot - destined for slaughter. Maryann and PJ compiled a list as best they could (Lisa Post normally does this and Lisa has an incredible eye and knowledge base - but she couldn't risk bringing back a deadly virus to her barns - one of her recent saves was also sick and being tested). Maryann's daugter took pictures - these three brought us back the list and posted it at 2:30 in the morning Thursday.

We had a list - the State was investigating the outbreak - it was pointing away from Camelot - we mobilized - the Facebook groups and ABR began frantically networking and crossposting - never knowing if ANYONE would take a chance on a Camelot horse this week - as news of the outbreak had spread up and down the east coast. We prayed, we worked, we prayed some more.

Thursday afternoon - only a handful saved. We worked some more - prayed even harder. About 21 left on Friday morning - bail offers came in, home offers came in - folks started stepping up to the plate. There was divinity at work - a greater power than even the sum total of all the people working frantically to save these horses' lives.

Friday night - there are 6 left - one of the six left- poor #893 - a sorrel gelding - tied up on Wednesday night - with people taunting him and torturing him by poking him trying to get him to bite or kick. His back was sore. He had a bad attitude.
Who would take him? Would #893 not find salvation - plenty of interest in the remaining five - someone offered a home - a temporary home - approved home - fundraising began - slowly - then building steam - bail was raised - we find that the home offer could only take him on a temporary basis and would need assistance - we sent out a plea for another home offer - a Rescue posts on our Facebook page "is this the poor horse that was being poked and prodded" I reply yes - the Rescue says they can take him in - he had spoken to them that night - but we'd have to find and pay for 30 days QT somewhere - folks got working on that - found a place at a reasonable price 40 minutes from this rescue - funds were raised - the shipper is coming on Sunday - needed an additional $250 to get this boy on the bus. A plea went out - people rallied around #893 - he was going to get on the bus and leave Camelot for the SECOND time on Sunday.

Seems that #893 was purchased the week before by a horse dealer - whose client worked the crap out of #893 - and the boy was sore to the bone - plus he was 100 pounds lighter this week than when he left the week before - The auction house owner, Frank, who graciously allows crazy rescue people to make his like crazy for three days a week, was furious with the dealer.

#893 will be going to a rescue after his 30 days of QT - he has a fan base on Facebook - folks think he should have his own page. I do too.

All horses were pulled - none will ship once again. A moment to remember #818 - a little yearling filly - who was bailed - but colicked and died last night. She is running free with the angels now. Surrounded by the glorious love of God.

Until next week.

Another week - another auction - again - all saved. Each week Cathy prepares a video. In addition to the Camelot rescues, this video contains a photo of horses saved from a PMU facility. The rest of the horses are horses bailed and gone or going home to forever homes - beautiful as ever, Cathy! Little Miracle and his Mom Bridget are in this video. Together with Little Bliss and her Mom, they will be going to a new home in NC. Bless you NJ Horse Angels!

WHAT a week - 31 horses in the kill pen - 11 TBS came in VERY late during the auction - always the hardest to place - Friday night closed with 7 horses still in need - 5 of which (TBS ) had no one slightly interested. All are safe - I am happy to report.

MANY THANK YOUS TO Lisa Post and the Helping Hearts crew - Maryann at Liberty Farm Rescue, Sharon Crumb and her NJ Angels on Facebook, Laura Martin and her Camelot Rescue angels also on Facebook - not to mention all the folks on ABR who monitor the various sites and keep us all informed :) And Deb Jones was instrumental this week with her ... See Moreassistance with the thoroughbreds, as well as Amanda Graham

Thank you to the folks at Camelot who are willing to put up with a lot of crazy rescue ladies.

Bless all who bumped, prayed, donated, scrambled and offered up their hearts to take in a horse in need.

This is truly a collaborative effort - the VERY BEST of rescue - and EVERYONE should be proud of the part he or she played this week as well as all of the previous many many weeks.

God performs miracles - but we have to be willing to help do our share to make them happen. And once again - everyone rose to the occasion. God Bless you all! I am honored to be among so many wonderful, caring, and TIRELESS people.

going to have my morning coffee now :)

Another week at Camelot - 22 - then they found another one made 23 in the #10 pen

babies - many babies -

appys - all beautiful

registered quarter horses

thoroughbreds

a reining mule!

and several paints

One became named Angel - whose owners or horse trader or whoever brought him to Camelot got their pound of flesh - drugged the poor boy to mask his pain so well - that other for a sunburned nose - no one KNEW how sick he was - a rescue was to take him - pick him up today - he died yesterday - all by himself.

And so despite a VERY slow start on Thursday and through most of Friday - all 23 (including Angel) found homes -

The blue eyed angel
watches with faith
watches with love
for those left behind
Angels
Angels
are everywhere
If you but look
If you but believe
His message
His soul
His legacy
