Congressman Conyers issued a statement last week to AAHS indicating how important our involvement is in ending horse slaughter. Once again we are being called up on to act. RISE UP…….meet the call and lets work together to finally get this done.

A horrific bill has been introduced in the Illinois Assembly that, according to the proposed legislation, "Repeals a provision that prohibits the slaughter of horses for human consumption." The bill also includes the following language: "Deletes a provision in the definition of the term "livestock" that excludes "horses, mules, or other equidae to be used in and for the preparation of meat or meat products for consumption by human beings," and "Allows equidae more than 12 months of age to enter the State for immediate slaughter without a certificate of veterinary inspection."

HB4812, the Horse Slaughter Bill, is going to be heard tomorrow, Tuesday Feb. 16th, at 2:00PM in the Agriculture & Conservation Committee. If you live in Illinois and can speak against the bill at the hearing, here is the address: Capitol Building, Room 122B Springfield, IL
