It's so nice to meet the both of you! That's a wonderful story you have Patti, about your first rescue.... sorta gets into your blood, doesn't it, when you find out what you can do!

Hi! Well, when I heard about this horse that needed to be rescued, there were several people who advised me not to go get him. I had only one horse at that time, a Rocky Mountain Horse mare. I was not experienced in dealing with a rescue and had no idea what I was going to do with him, except get him out of the situation he was in. I didn't even own a trailer at the time and had to borrow one!! He was low guy on the totem pole and was pretty beat up when I went to go get him. He was being fed but probably 100 pounds underweight. My hubby and I loaded up my mare to keep the gelding comfortable on our way home. This poor Rocky had been bred for his signature color (chocolate with a white mane and tail), and no thought was given to the fact that you cannot breed two chocolate colored silver dapple horses together without getting ASD. I won't get into all the specifics of ASD, except to say that along with the ASD (which is an eye condition), this gelding also had moon blindness, cataracts and cysts in his eyes.
After we got him, I knew I had done the right thing. I had an equine opthamologist (sp?) to our farm and found out the extent of his eye issues. BUT, through it all, I knew that he was trusting and loveable. I worked with him and found an herbal supplement to stop the degeneration of his eyes. This herbal supplement also contained herbs that relieved the pain in his eyes. Even my vet asked what the herbs were and told me that I had stumbled onto something that could be used by many of his clients for aged horses with eye issues.
We rode this horse that would have been put down if I would not have gotten him. $1.00. That was the price for his life. He taught me SO much about trusting my gut instinct on what to do and how to help him get over his fears of being partially blind. He is a very happy boy in his forever home and because he's local, I can see him whenever I want to!
Sorry I got so long winded!!!!!
