Thanks Rowdy! I'm here and there and kind of everywhere! Hmmm... that sounds like a Dr. Seuss thing...   I'm always around, but I just don't get here as often as I'd like sometimes... Speaking of which, I should go check on Joe and see if he's gotten his computer problems fixed and post his daily diary.... TbFriends is great! I love the work Joe does. I had the opportunity today to help out OHAT by posting the iGive fundraiser going on! They're going to give us $1 for everyone who downloads their search bar and makes a purchase and for every other purchase they will give us $.02! AND IT'S FREE! How cool is THAT??? I love it! Every lil bit helps!!

Hmmm...hay in the bathtub, grain in the sink...I think the stairs might pose a challenge, but with a limber young horse, perhaps you could make it work...

HI!
My name is Caryn and I found this group through Facebook. I have LOVED horses since I was a baby. I think my first word was horsie! I rode alot until I hit my mid teens then school and friends got the better of me. But, my love for horses never stopped. When I was old enough and responsible enough I started riding again through a lesson program. Thankfully, I had awesome trainers that became my very good friends and helped me purchase a horse of my own. I rode for years until I got married and had my first daughter. Life got the better of me again and I had to sell my horse. I have always felt like something was missing in my life (can't believe I'm being this personal) until recently. I now work with an organization that works to rescue abused and neglected horses. They don't have their own rescue but they support local rescues, and organizations that use rescue horses in a positive way (like using rescue horses to help inner city kids), by supplying them with hay and medical care needed to care for the rescue horses. I never knew how many horses were out there that needed help. If I had known, when I purchased my horse that I could have had a rescue horse, I would have. So now, I think it is so important to get the word out to the entire horse community that there are many horses that need our help!!!!! Happy to be a part of this group!

Welcome! Caryn - we are so happy to have you here - and yes - it takes a village - to save these horses and get the word out. It's my opinion that there are NO unwanted horses - just horses needing better matchmakers :)

We look forward to working with you!

Hi!

My name is Patti, and I'm a fan of OHHAAT on Facebook. Right now I have 2 Rocky Mountain Horses. A coming 4 yr old gelding that I show and a 7 yr old mare that I trail ride. I have been back "into" horses for almost 8 years after having a many, many year siesta. The first horse I owned was a Tennessee Walker back when I was 17!!!!!!! ( I won't tell you how many years ago that was  )

About 5 years ago, I rescued an almost blind Rocky Mountain Horse. He was only 3 yrs old and the woman who had him didn't want him anymore after she found out about his blindness. I purchased him for $1.00, loaded him in a borrowed trailer and took him home. I showered him with love and attention, purchased some herbal supplements for his eyes (they were painful) and worked with him to become more independant. Almost 6 months ago I gave him to his forever home where I know he is going to be loved and spoiled! His new owner loves him and they are an amazing match!!

I hope to learn about OHAAT and learn what I can do to help!!

Hay Patti! Since you've ridden both of my possible future horses, how different are Rockies from TWH?

We have a lot we would like to do this year and it all requires involved people for some reason

Howdy! The difference between a TWH and a Rocky is this........ the Rocky is a 4 beat ambling gait and when they gait, their tail bobs. When a TWH gaits, it is more of a 4 cornered gait and the horse's head bobs instead of the tail. The TWH also canters when being ridden and for the most part, cantering is not real popular in the Rocky world. Of course the Rocky can canter, but it is not asked for in the show ring at all!!

I do love the Rocky Mountain Horse because of their temperment. They have a puppy dog attitude and are probably the most loveable horse I've ever met!

Hi! Well, when I heard about this horse that needed to be rescued, there were several people who advised me not to go get him. I had only one horse at that time, a Rocky Mountain Horse mare. I was not experienced in dealing with a rescue and had no idea what I was going to do with him, except get him out of the situation he was in. I didn't even own a trailer at the time and had to borrow one!! He was low guy on the totem pole and was pretty beat up when I went to go get him. He was being fed but probably 100 pounds underweight. My hubby and I loaded up my mare to keep the gelding comfortable on our way home. This poor Rocky had been bred for his signature color (chocolate with a white mane and tail), and no thought was given to the fact that you cannot breed two chocolate colored silver dapple horses together without getting ASD. I won't get into all the specifics of ASD, except to say that along with the ASD (which is an eye condition), this gelding also had moon blindness, cataracts and cysts in his eyes.

After we got him, I knew I had done the right thing. I had an equine opthamologist (sp?) to our farm and found out the extent of his eye issues. BUT, through it all, I knew that he was trusting and loveable. I worked with him and found an herbal supplement to stop the degeneration of his eyes. This herbal supplement also contained herbs that relieved the pain in his eyes. Even my vet asked what the herbs were and told me that I had stumbled onto something that could be used by many of his clients for aged horses with eye issues.

We rode this horse that would have been put down if I would not have gotten him. $1.00. That was the price for his life. He taught me SO much about trusting my gut instinct on what to do and how to help him get over his fears of being partially blind. He is a very happy boy in his forever home and because he's local, I can see him whenever I want to!

Sorry I got so long winded!!!!!

Yes, I am definately a gaited horse fan!!!! I am both in the show ring and on the trail and love them both!! I love the gait and love the fact that my horses don't trot!!! (bad back and neck!!)

I would love to help OHAAT in whatever way I can. I have a FB page and also have my Farm on FB. I have cross posted the horses that need our help. It honestly AMAZES me how you all pull together and save SO many horses in a short amount of time! I see the post on Wednesday and by the weekend, all have been saved. Simply amazing!!

Thanks for the welcome!!

Thank you Patti - I love the Rockies too! As to the Camelot rescues - there's a HUGE number of people like yourself who network and cross post the available list. At least 50% of the horses each week are purchased by private buyers - meaning the networking is WORKING!!

Prices are going up - and each week we see a few more horses .......reality tells you the week will come when we can't save them all - but we'll keep trying.
