Hi!

My name is Patti, and I'm a fan of OHHAAT on Facebook. Right now I have 2 Rocky Mountain Horses. A coming 4 yr old gelding that I show and a 7 yr old mare that I trail ride. I have been back "into" horses for almost 8 years after having a many, many year siesta. The first horse I owned was a Tennessee Walker back when I was 17!!!!!!! ( I won't tell you how many years ago that was )

About 5 years ago, I rescued an almost blind Rocky Mountain Horse. He was only 3 yrs old and the woman who had him didn't want him anymore after she found out about his blindness. I purchased him for $1.00, loaded him in a borrowed trailer and took him home. I showered him with love and attention, purchased some herbal supplements for his eyes (they were painful) and worked with him to become more independant. Almost 6 months ago I gave him to his forever home where I know he is going to be loved and spoiled! His new owner loves him and they are an amazing match!!

I hope to learn about OHAAT and learn what I can do to help!!

Hey, I'm Amber and the proud owner of a TN walking horse. Her name is Lilly and I have had her for less than a year, she was severly abused and most trainers wanted nothing to do with her. A local trainer who works w/ sporting horses took her in and trained her. Long story short I finally go involved with her last summer and she has made so much progress and is a wonderful loving horse full of heart. I came from the hunter/jumper world and always had a bad taste in my mouth for the TN walking horses b/c of what I had heard about their training practices and soring. Now that I own one and can appreciate them for their racking gait, their endurance and their heart making them great trail horses and I am saddened and angry that this practice w/ show horses is still taking place. I live in TN and am at a local barn where one trainer is still using soring to train his horses. The owner is a good country man and doesn't really understand what is going on. I am trying to get involved and find out how to report this particular trainer and whom to report him to, in order for things to get followed thru on. But I don't want to hurt the barn owner or the other trainers and borders there at the farm. Does anyone had advice on this subject and how to proceed? I am so happy to find a group like this but am findng it difficult to figure out who to report actual individual abuse cases too. Thanks so much.

Hey Amber - welcome to One Horse at a Time - we're glad to have you - and I in particular am VERY glad to see another walking horse enthusiast I have one as well - Mr. Midnight....

One Horse at a Time is very involved in trying to eliminate the practice of soring - given that it's been ILLEGAL for almost 40 years!

We have an online petition that you can find the link to in the Current Action thread - if the person in your barn is actively showing or training these horses for the show ring - then yes - you can report him - you report him to the HSUS
