Plus a percentage of any race winnings needs to be set aside in a "retirement" account. It would take so very little.

This is a link to a petition - in french - about not having Sleeping Jack Race.
help us "sleeping jack", a race horse that was sent for retirement in June last year, they have now decided he should come out and run in the grand steeple de Paris!!
he has shown he does not want to nor cannot run but he is still set to participate. He has done his fair share of work run 41 races has won 13 and placed 14 times and won an amazing 835 000 euros but this is not enough apparently.!!!
Please sign the petition to let this boy have the retirement he deserves
http://jesigne.fr/laretraitepour-sleepingjackPlus when you sign it - you get a lovely email in French in return

You can check back on the site - there's a link for the results.....Secretariat in the pedigree is almost a kiss of death - his get were pretty lackluster....although I think his daughters made lovely broodmares - several stakes winners

That was a good article. Out of curiosity, why would a horse from Secretariats bloodline go for less money? He was a great horse - wasn't he?

He was a great horse - unfortunately - NONE of his sons or grandsons really ran well - I believe his daughters were good moms (meaning their get did ok)
Lindsay told me it was the KISS OF DEATH in the sales ring when a horse had a lot of secretariat. Just goes to show you can't breed for heart!
